Choosing a Kitchen Counter top is no easy task anymore. With literally hundreds of options how do you narrow it down to what is best for you. Here's what I have come up with. Granite Counter tops (Pros) Granite is very dense and resists heat very well because it is formed naturally from lava and the earths pressures. The (Con) to Granite is that it has to be sealed with a penetrating sealer to prevent stains from seeping into the natural cracks of the stone. Look for a sealer that has a 15+ year warranty. That way you won't have to stress so much about staining. Granite is composed of minerals that give it color and variation. This can be both a pro or a con. If you love variations in color, then granite is for you. If you a perfectionist who dose not like surprises. Then you should go see a Granite Slab in it's raw form before purchasing your counter top. You can ask you local tile store, to make an appointment to see the full "Slab" of rock before buying. Most stores will not have an issue with this, because at the end of the day they don't want any headaches down the line. Now on to my personal favorite. Cambria Quartz. The reason I prefer Quartz over natural granite is because it is a synthetic stone. Basically the Quartz of Natural granite is extracted and poured into an epoxy molding. This will ensure the colors are consistent. You do not have to take a trip to a slab yard. What you see is what you get. Also, the quartz material is non porous. You do not have to worry about stains or radiation emissions. The only con to Quartz is that it is not as heat resistant as Granite. So, you will need to use a hot plate or some type of heat barrier between the Quartz, and you favorite pot of hot pasta. Cambria offers a lot of colors and is much more realistic looking than other quartz companies on the market. I will not name them.
They also use certified installers, so you never have to worry about bad workmanship on the installation. This backed by a limited lifetime warranty makes Cambria the clear choice in counters. Good Luck! Happy Hunting!
